Shiroishi’s city symbol is a bell motif and is comprised of three main
elements: the bell, the circle and its white interior. The inner bell was
taken from the symbol used on the war flags of Lord Kojuro Katakura, the
main vassal of Masamune Date of the Sendai Feudal Clan. The white interior
was chosen to represent the shiro in Shiroishi which means ‘white’ in Japanese. Lastly, the circular shape
was chosen for its symbolism to perpetuity.
