• Regarding the outbreak of Swine Flu
As you may already be aware, the recent worldwide outbreak of Swine flu
has hit Japan with cases recorded in Miyagi prefecture. Shiroishi city
has also recently had its first case and the further spreading of the flu
is cause for concern. Our city is working with Miyagi prefecture and related
agencies in order to protect the well being of our citizens. However, there
are some precautionary steps that you can take at home to reduce the risk
of catching the flu.
1. Carry out the following precautionary measures 「gargle, wash hands, etiquette when coughing, wearing a mask in crowded
areas」
2. Early consultation for those at risk. Especially, suffers of fever,
influenza-like symptoms, those with pre existing conditions such as chronic
respiratory disease and chronic heart disease, infants and pregnant women.
3. Currently consultations are available at all medical centres, however,
for those suffering high fevers, we ask that you [call ahead] and come to your consultation wearing a mask.
• About the Information Centre
Miyagi prefecture has set up [fever information centres] to refer patients
who don’t know about getting a consultation, and for patients receiving
treatment at home. These centres provide information over the phone. Please
feel free to use this service if there is anything you are unsure about.

that of typical seasonal influenza. The use of Tamiflu medication is effective.
